Explore the Exotic World of Tui Parakeet Parrots
The Tui Parakeet (Brotogeris sanctithomae) can be found along the whole length of the Amazon River and its tributaries, from Brazil to eastern Ecuador and northern Bolivia.
The United States heavily imported these parakeets in the late 1960s and early 1970s until an export embargo stopped the imports.
There was little interest in reproducing these parakeet Birds, which are now nearly extinct in the United States.
Aviculturists are now in high demand for the adorable little Tui Parakeets.
Except for the lack of red wing accents, the Tui Perot resembles small Yellow-crowned Amazon parrots. Tui Parakeets have bright green plumage with a darker wing and a massive patch of yellow on their forehead.
The Tui Parakeet is a little parrot that grows to be around 6.5 – 6.8 inches (17 cm) long and weighs about 2 oz (58g). Their tail is medium to short and wedge-shaped.
Their bill is a dark reddish-brownish, with white eye rings and pale grey irises.

Santarém plain Parakeets are slightly smaller than the nominate Tui Parakeet, measuring 6 inches (16 cm) on average. They resemble the nominate species, except they have a variable yellow stripe or spot behind the eye, and the yellow patch on the forehead is often more extensive.
